Phoenix Moss (Fissidens fontanus) This plant is a very fluffy, lush green plant that will attach to most surfaces and can eventually grow into a large mat of impressive size

Fissidens fontanus
The North American moss Fissidens fontanus, also known as Phoenix Moss, has become increasingly popular in recent years. This plant can grow into a huge mat that is impressive in size and has a fluffy, rich green appearance. This plant provides a safe haven for shrimp and fish fry, which are an essential part of the ecosystem. Affixing to improvised structures like driftwood and rock is a breeze. Growing and developing properly requires low to moderate light exposure.

This moss is available in a sturdy stainless steel mat that can be easily attached to and started growing on rocks, driftwood, or the walls and substrates of an aquarium. Moss in Taiwan may harbor a few pesky snails or other insects that make a nuisance of themselves at the soil level (the bugs will not survive or reproduce underwater).

Although it's not required, adding carbon dioxide (CO2) to the air around your phoenix moss plants can help them flourish. The same is true of most synthetic plant nutrients; it responds similarly to other mosses. Several aquarists have reported success with this moss in a well-maintained aquarium without any additional nutrients.
