If you're looking for a peaceful and elegant fish, the Candy Cane Tetra (Hyphessobrycon bentosi), also known as the Ornate Tetra, is a great choice for your tank. Long, flowing white-tipped fins adorn this graceful fish, which has a translucent maroon and pink body pattern. If you have a planted aquarium, having a school of these fish is a sure way to draw attention to it.
Most often seen at or near top and middle water levels, the Candy Cane HY511 Tetra can also be found swimming and feeding in the middle and lower water levels. Keeping it with other peaceful, small fish is not a problem. While the mouth of this tetra is small, it is capable of feeding on small adult shrimp despite its small size. It's also possible to keep calmer, larger invertebrates in a community aquarium. Candy Cane HY511 Tetras require a group of six or more for proper care. Despite being tank-raised, this fish's natural habitat contains soft, acidic water rich in tannins and leaf litter, making it somewhat adaptable in captivity. Floating plants, in particular, will help it thrive in a planted aquarium and show off its best color and health.
