Zebra The long, zebra-like stripes of gold and black on the shells of Nerites snails are a stunning and sophisticated design element. These gorgeous snails, like other Nerite Snails, are a focal point wherever they go. You can use them to keep the substrate in your aquarium clean and the right color, as well as to remove algae from the glass, plants, and decorations in your aquarium.
Nerite Snails are widely regarded as the best snails in the aquarium hobby for eating algae. They have zero fear of aquatic life or vegetation. Nerite Snails require salt water in order to reproduce, preventing them from overwhelming your aquarium (as some freshwater snails are known to do).
Depending on the species, the average length of a zebra nerite snail is between 0.5 and 1 inches. On average, snails reach a maximum adult size of about 1 14 inches. They can live peacefully alongside plants (not just algae) in an aquarium, making them a great pick for planted ponds.
Nerite Snails can be difficult to care for if the water level in your aquarium is too high because they like to jump. In contrast, nitrate-rich water is lethal to Nerite Snails. Keep an eye out for copper if you use tap water in your tank, as it is extremely toxic to all species of freshwater snails.
